Week One in the Books - Hooah!

My wife texted me that I need to make sure to keep my posts current - so here I am.  Sorry for the lapse in posting, but it has been a busy & productive week.  Many highlights - many things confirmed - many blessings.  For instance, there is no doubt that I have 2 left feet.  Learning the basics of marching and drill ceremonies has by far been my greatest challenge.  I am working hard at convincing my feet that my mind knows what to do.  It's getting better, and I will be working on it throughout my time off this weekend.

I celebrated a successful 1-1-1 test today.  1-1-1 is 1 minutes of push-ups, 1 minute of sit-ups, & 1 mile run.  This is in preparation of our PT test of 2 minutes of push-ups & sit-ups w/a 2 mile run.  For the 1-1-1, I ran a personal 1 mile best of 6:58 w/ 45 push-ups & 40 push-ups - Hooah!  That's enough push-ups & sit-ups to successfully pass my age bracket for the 2 minute test (& I did it in 1 minute!!!), and at that run pace I am well ahead of my needed run time.  Thank you God!

This week has been filled with a lot of in-processing and introduction to the Army life, yet I must say I feel blessed to serve with a great group of Chaplains, Chaplain candidates, & cadre whom God has called & gifted to minister to our Soldiers & their families.  Looking forward to the Memorial Day services on base on Monday & worship Sunday!

Thank you each for your words of encouragement & prayers.  I covet them both!  If you would like to contact me, feel free to e-mail me at srevjds@gmail.com or joseph.d.sherwin@us.army.mil.

Day One

This day started early and it has been filled with a flurry of activity.  It has been an awesome day.  Met some great guys & looking forward to this journey with this class of 150+ chaplains & chaplain candidates.  I can feel all the prayers.  My heart was so heavy this morning having to say goodbye to my family for 90 days, but God's tender mercies have comforted me throughout this day.  And so here we are - the journey has finally begun.  I covet your continued prayers and will try & keep you posted on what is happening here at Fort Jackson.  Hooah!

Getting Closer...

I am excited and anxious about what is coming.  I am blessed to serve at NHBC where they completely see and embrace the vision of me as missionary to our troops & their families.  Please pray for me, my family & NHBC as we all will walk this journey together.  I am blessed to not walk alone - I walk in the strength of my Lord with the companionship of my family & my church!

Looking forward to joining my chaplain brothers at Ch-BOLC this summer!
